Adelaide to host the 2008, Inaugural
Southern Cross Cup – Karate Training Seminar & Championship
In the tradition of the SA/Vic Combined Championships, which were staged throughout the 80's and 90's, JKA Victoria & South Australia's Honbu Dojo are proudly working together to resurrect this past tradition, in the form of the Southern Cross Cup, and re-establish these exciting opportunities for our current members.
The Southern Cross Cup – Karate Training Seminar & Championships are to be held as an annual event, shared between South Australia and Victoria.
This, our inaugural Southern Cross Cup – Karate Training Seminar & Championship, will take place at the Marion Leisure & Fitness Centre, in Morphettville, and will run from Friday 6 th through to Monday 9 th of June, 2008.
A Training Seminar (Saturday 7th & Sunday 8th of June), has the expertise of top level, nationally acclaimed, Japanese Instructor, Takaatsu Nishimura Sensei. And, National Senior Coach, Walter Stark Sensei. These instructors will be on hand to provide first class instruction and guidance to members of all levels from throughout South Australia, Victoria and New South Wales.
The Championships will be held on Monday 9th of June.
These Championships will feature a selection of National and State Champions, both present and past. Members of JKA Australia’s National Team, that represented Australia at the World Shoto Cup, held in Sydney, 2006, will also be competing.
JKA competitions consist of two disciplines, Kata and Kumite.
Kata (forms) is a complex sequence of techniques, which must be executed with correct focus, balance and use of power. This is judged on perfection of execution, much like figure skating.
Kumite (free fighting): Two opponents fight for the purpose of scoring a single decisive point, Ippon – Full point, or two less effective but still convincing points, Wazari – half point.
The Tournament Coordinator, Dion Risborg, is anticipating that these Championships will attract approximately 200 competitors, support personnel and spectators from throughout South Australia, Victoria & New South Wales.
On behalf of our organising committee, we would like to extend his welcome to members of the public, interested in viewing one of our region’s premier Karate events.
